Michelle A. Meloche

Michelle provides solutions to strategy, policy, and compliance questions from healthcare systems and individual providers. She evaluates and directs practices and patterns for institutions scrutinized by governmental regulatory bodies, professional organizations, and the public, based on the unique needs and goals of each. In addition to her Juris Doctorate with Health Law Concentration, she has a Masters in Public Health concentrated in Health Management and Policy. She has experience in policy development and quality improvement with one of the largest healthcare systems in the Midwest, the largest hospital system in Colorado, and the Alaska State Department of Law. Prior to joining Bartosiak Makepeace, Michelle served as compliance counsel for a midsized, private physician group in central Illinois, in addition to a robust healthcare liability litigation practice.

With the Health and Human Services division of the Alaska Department of Law, Michelle supported the Alaska Psychiatric Institute, conducting trials for civil commitments, representing interests in various court matters, and working to maintain accreditation with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Michelle bolsters the firm’s ability to advise clients on CMS Guidelines for Participation and responding to threats of Immediate Jeopardy.

Michelle is an integral part of a nationwide network of healthcare-focused lawyers, serving as a thought leader for liability defense and regulatory compliance strategies. She is active in:

  • The American Health Law Association (AHLA), as Vice Chair of the Health Care Liability & Litigation Practice Group;
  • The Professional Liability Defense Federation (PLDF), as Chair of the Healthcare Liability Committee;
  • The Defense Research Institute (DRI), as a Member of the Health Care Law Committee;
  • The Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), as a Member of the Health Care Law Section and the Mental Health Section;
  • The St. Louis Area Health Lawyers Association (SLAHLA);
  • The Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers (MODL); and
  • The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL).

Michelle joined Bartosiak Makepeace in 2025 to lead its Regulatory Compliance team and advise its clients on operational challenges. Her advice is based on more than theory. It is grounded in lessons learned as an experienced litigator defending healthcare clients against allegations of medical negligence, policy failure, and corporate liability, and including representation for petitions of guardianship and other related court matters.

Ultimately, Michelle is an advocate for healthcare clients, who tailors her advice and practice to the unique and diverse needs of each in healthcare operations and strategy.
